Artsy Fartsy Day

Today is my Artsy Fartsy Day where I get my hands dirty with Acrylic paints and teeny weeny brushes!

I am suppose to be studying, really... I did for (I think) 3 hours!

I am planning to do some Super Mario 8bit painting on 4"X4" canvas. It is really not that hard, it just takes one to WANT to try something different that is artsy.

Painting was never my kinda thing but what got me buying Acrylic paint was more for nail art. If you scroll down, you'd see how I got myself started with painting these.

What else should I think of doing in life while I'm young and motivated? How do you like my painting? LoLz!

Red Back Spiderlings!!

Broodles's (Red Back Spider) baby spiderlings!!

I can't believe it! It's so cool to see so many baby venomous spiders and what's better is you see them eat each other up!

I'm so tired...long day today. Fell asleep in the state library, train, Adelaide University Garden.

More macro pictures tomorrow!

Spider: Red Back VS Black Widow

Extra information:

"The notorious Black Widow Spider (Latrodectus sp) of the United States is a close relative of the Redback Spider (Latrodectus hasselti), and only differs in appearance by the absence of a red dorsal stripe." [Link]

"The black widow spider (Latrodectus spp.) is a spider notorious for its neurotoxic venom."

" The redback spider has a neurotoxic venom which is toxic to humans with bites causing severe pain"

[Wikipedia]

"Although the name 'black widow spider' is most commonly used to refer to the three North American species best known for their dark coloration, black hair and red hourglass pattern, occasionally it is applied to several other members of a the Latrodectus (widow spider) genus in which there are 31 recognized species including the Australian red-back, brown widow spider (sometimes called the gray widow), and the red widow spider."

Red Back Spider (also known as Black Widow)

Red Back Spider (similar to Black Widow)
feeding on Garden Orb Weaver that is larger than herself.

There were two garden orb weavers the size of my thumb forming a gigantic web at my garden.
I caught them in the two tiniest container (only my thumb could fit in) just nice to fit one spider each. The process was excitingly dangerous. I liked it though.

Within seconds of putting garden orb weaver 1 into Broodles tank, the orb had no chance in survival. It was immediately stunned and wrapped.
These pictures were taken perhaps, 10 seconds after putting garden orb weaver 1 in the tank.

Guess what? I just found out the tank was made in Malaysia! (as seen on image)

Black Widow Spider

Click on image to enlarge! Great composition :)

Name: Broodles (I don't know why, couldn't think of a name)

This picture was taken before she became my pet! No intentions of keeping the spiderlings with their mother because the tank for Broodles is not air tight. Therefore they are kept in another container. I wonder if I'll see hundreds of baby redbacks in the near future.

Not that I'm evil or anything, but it'll be great to witness the nature of spiders. I heard they are borned defenders. They run for their lives or attack/eat to stay alive as soon as they are born.

Wicked.

Australian White Tailed Spider in my house

Yesterday:
Just as I thought my "Widow" is looking hungry... She isn't as fat as she was before. I planned to catch another spider for her.

This morning:

At 6am in the morning while going for number 1, I saw a spider (size: approximately 18mm) in the cat litter box.
Didn't think it was great to leave it there where the cats will be scratching...so I sacrificed my "Widow" chopsticks... grabbed the spider... tossed it into my Widow's play pen.
I looked closer to identify what spider it is... Perhaps a House spider?

FFS... I just sent my Widow to hell. It's an Australian White Tailed Spider. To be honest, I do not know who will die of whose venomous bite. As for us humans, Australian Redback Spider's (also known as the Black Widow) bites are dangerous but there is antidote for those who are bitten.
White tailed spiders... unfortunate to us in Australia, are one of those which we DO NOT HAVE ANTIDOTE.

This is what I've researched so far:

Habitat and Biology [Link]

Webs consist of a tangled, funnel-like upper retreat area from which vertical, sticky catching threads run to ground attachments. The Redback Spider favours proximity to human habitation, with webs being built in dry, sheltered sites, such as among rocks, in logs, shrubs, junk-piles, sheds, or toilets. Redback Spiders are less common in winter months. Daddy-long-legs Spiders and White-tailed Spiders are known to catch and kill Redback Spiders.

She is dooooomed!
Who do you think will win? I would have just died if I weren't careful. Sheesh...

=/

Spiders Behaviour on Video! [Good Quality]

I saw this spider in the garden while I was watering the plants... He was hanging on his web. Seemed 'fainty' so I took my huntsman box out and caught it why it's 'fainty'.

Looks dead at first but when I brought it inside the house.....this is what I saw! The spider was shedding its skin.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR VOLUME BEFORE PLAYING THE VIDEO!

My huntsman's name is Onizuka. Yes it is named after Great Teacher Onizuka. Why? Because I was watching GTO when I found him.

I found him wondering around my house. At first I thought I could just leave him around this house because he could eat all the daddy long legs and insects. What made me kept him as pet in a box?

Story of "Onizuka"

One fine day I was doing my laundry. I asked Tim to help me with taking the basket from on top of the cupboard (because I'm short). I stood below where he lifted the basket and Onizuka jumped out of it and landed on my hands! I screamed and ran around the house...naturally. 10 seconds later, I calmed down and took a transparent box...and adopted Onizuka as my pet.

This video shows my huntsman spinning web around his leftover food (corpse of another spider). So far, I've had quite a few spiders as pets and Huntsman are very clean. Firstly because they don't live on webs.

Happy watching! They are amazing. Some may say "Eeewww!" but I grew up with them.

My Redback@Black Widow is HUNGRY!

This is a clear, close-up video of my pet redback paralysing its prey...preparing for dinner! Redbacks can last without food for 100 days...This was only 2 weeks without wormy for my redback and I fed her with a mealworm!
Amazing!

Dear Brother

What's ahead of us? Kor, both of us may have different personalities.. you may have different opinions from that of mine... we may have fought over a lot of issues, conflicts... but deep down inside me, you were my only childhood. It's so difficult to type all these when my vision is blurred. There's so much inside me that seeks for an answer. Some of which are similar to all that you're feeling inside you. Again I ask... What's ahead of us? Am I doing the right thing? Is this for me? or for a future that is laid for me? Is this really me? What have I done?

Truth is, I'm afraid of fighting for a life of my own. By doing so, I must have hurt others. At one point, I wanted to try them impossible..I hurt my parents. It has been 4 years.. I finally understood why mom and dad are heartbroken. In the end, everyone is heartbroken. I achieved nothing... but I'm glad impossible became possible. Possible not for me. I hope he forgives me in the future. I've already prayed for his health...most importantly. He should be out there fighting for a life of his own. Kor, there's so much to say now..but I can only manage to type this..anymore will tear me down.

"I'm sorry I can't be there for you. Please understand. I can't choose between. I can't bring myself further than what I've done..because the further I go... the more I hurt my parents. Thank you for loving me.."

Kor, you're probably going through much more than I am. We stand strong okay? We can make it through. Don't only be there for me. Let me be there for you. It's easier for me to overcome my own fear of heartache by learning how to go through yours. Thats why people say,

"hui shuo bie ren, bu hui shuo ji zi"

which means, 'can advice others but never ourselves'. It is usually used as an insult. I think otherwise. For those who advise others, they are setting aside their problems to help others go through hardship..because they know how it feels when they are not ready or not strong enough to help themselves..

Thank you, kor... please take care of your health okay? While I'm away, mom and dad needs you. Hope these pictures bring back our childhood.
